Geekabode accessibility statement (draft)
Geekabode should be usable by people with disabilities, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or reduced motion. This draft says what we aim for, what has been checked so far, what has not, and how to tell us about a problem. Last reviewed: 2026-10-04.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA on the calculator page and on these notes. We do not claim full conformance: the checks below are partial and the limits are listed.
What has been checked
- Automated scans — axe-core rules for WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 level A and AA plus best practices, run at desktop and phone widths in the light and dark themes, at the top of the page, after scrolling through every scene, and after the calculator shows results. They reported no violations.
- Keyboard — every control can be reached and used with the keyboard, shows a visible focus ring, and is not hidden behind the sticky step bar. A skip link jumps to the main content.
- Forms — each field has a label, and an error is written as text next to the field, linked to it, with focus moved to the first field that needs attention. Results and sign-in confirmations are announced as status messages.
- Colour and size — text contrast was measured in both themes, including text over the background video; the page reflows without sideways scrolling down to 320 CSS pixels wide; text spacing can be increased without clipping.
- Motion — the two background clips are silent, decorative, and move only as you scroll. With the reduced-motion setting on, they do not load, and the loading spinner stops.
Automated tools and these manual checks do not find every problem.
Known limits
- The page has not yet been tested with screen readers such as VoiceOver or NVDA by people who use them. What is announced is based on the page's markup and on browser checks, not on listening tests.
- The written read is produced by third-party AI providers and appears as text on the page; its wording is not controlled by this site.
- Text that comes from outside services, such as news items and listing data, is shown as supplied.
Tell us about a problem
If something on Geekabode is hard or impossible to use, email supportgeekabode@gmail.com. It helps to include the page address, what you were trying to do, what happened, and the browser, device and assistive technology you use. We will read every message and use it to decide what to fix.
What the owner still needs to confirm
Before this page can be anything other than a draft, the owner must confirm each of these, because none of them is established by the code:
- a screen reader pass on the calculator, the analysis log, the sign-in confirmation and the written read;
- who answers the support address, and what response time, if any, to state;
- the final wording, with counsel;
- when to remove the draft banners from all policy pages.
This statement remains a draft until the owner confirms those points and counsel has reviewed the wording.
